The Blackthorne Forefathers: 1666-1822

 Captain Eldritch Blackthorne, born 1666, a.k.a. “The Red Leviathan” and known for his stark blue eye, is the progenitor of the Blackthorne Legacy. He was of Norwegian and Scottish blood and sailed under the “Black Banner of Dagon,” shown behind him here on his ship, the Charon. Lore states that a nameless Nordic aristocrat charged him with recovering an unfindable artifact on his final ill-fated 

In 1751, with the wreckage of the Charon found (and the golden ducat firmly embedded in the mainmast) but no trace of his father Eldritch, Ichabod Blackthorne took up the family mantle and subsequent seafaring life. Ichabod engraved "Rex oblitus. Mare Memenit." into the now-nefarious coin; "The King forgot. The Sea remembers."

Obadiah Blackthorne, son of Ichabod, found no peace in his lifetime due to his cursed surname. A well known "entrepreneurial sailor" and rumored to be one of the Brethren of the Coast of the Southern American coastline, Obadiah earned his brand on a particularly dark voyage through what is now known as "The Bermuda Triangle" that yielded some of the Blackthorne family's most legendary heirlooms -

Ambrose Blackthorne, son of Lazarus, returned to Scotland in his midlife to study religion. Which religion(s), specifically, was a source of much debate around Ambrose as he traveled the bogs, moors and highlands in one of our homelands while looking for answers in the recesses of the human mind- and the darker spaces between spaces that are sought by an esoteric few.

He charted the treks of his namesake, attempting to solve the mystery of Captain Blackthorne's disappearance (and find any treasures associated with it). Mercy Lacryma Addams (formerly Blackthorne, daughter of Ambrose) was an astute logician, polymath, and linguist in a time when women were still not welcomed in academia. This resistance was a powerful motivator for Mercy, and some who vocally opposed her aggressive forward hunger for knowledge suddenly fell mute... Or worse.

The family coin was, for her, a trophy carried with pride.

Temperance Blackthorne, daughter of Ashworth and a spiritual matron to the Carolina low country through the late 1800's/ early 1900's, was instrumental in keeping the faith, food, and spiritualism of the area's cultural roots. Nathaniel Blackthorne, son of Temperance, was a well-known explorer of never-quite-sunny Southern swamps and bayous in his time. He charted many miles of unforgiving bog that others attempted- and few returned from to tell the tale of. He carried the coin and was rumored to have found great fortune in the Louisiana bayou with a mysterious Creole woman.

Gideon Lucifer Blackthorne, son of Nathaniel. Yet another historic lightkeeper like Ichabod, shown here in 1999 just before the onset of Hurricane Floyd. Gideon was a well-weathered seaman and knew when storms were coming before the weather crews did.

The coin, for him, was a reminder to succeed where others had failed before him; persistence and resilience at all costs.

Silence Memoria Blackthorne, daughter of Nathaniel, also known as "Our Lady of the Graves". Shown here in Savannah, 1999. Silence was of sleight build but with a fiery presence and the piercing blue eye of here forefather. She oversaw the maintenance of many Southern cemeteries, insisting that they be undisturbed and respected- much as she chose to be. She carried the coin (and her Derringer) and
